  • Abstract:  When Nest launched in Australia their approach was unorthodox and somewhat controversial, but in the end what matters is the product and we've installed the Nest Protect smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm to give it a whirl. At $189 it's bloody expensive. Wal...

  • With boutique design, remote monitoring via mobile device, and the ability to wave off false alarms with your hand, the Nest Protect is the smoke/CO detector we never knew we wanted
  • $129 is a lot to ask for a smoke/CO detector, even a connected one
  • Nest brings crisp design and smart features -- connected and otherwise -- to the humble smoke detector. You don't absolutely need the Nest Protect, but it's fine to admit you want one....

  • The Nest Protect is the smartest smoke detector you can buy – and the least annoying; but it's quite expensive...

  • The new Nest Protect has a more refined design than the original model, as well a handy in-app alarm silence feature to go along with its already useful connected features and integration with other Nest products and IFTTT
  • The history section in the app is empty and it doesn't have enough new features to justify an upgrade from the original
  • No other smoke and carbon monoxide detectors available today can match the second-gen Nest Protect in terms of looks and options, making it a great buy for anyone who appreciates design and connected features...

  • Monitor status via your phone, acts as a nightlight, battery lasts for 5 years, will connects to other Nest products, speaks to you, wave to turn off alarm
  • Expensive, need to have Wi-Fi for it to work, other Nest products absent from UK at time of writing
  • There is no doubting the Nest Protect is a very clever device that works as prescribed and achieves what it sets out to do. It looks good, can communicate with other Nest devices, and thanks to the app you can even detect a fire when not in the home...
