  • Abstract:  What happens when you go back to the well and try to make a clone of a 20 year old game? Well, not exactly good things. But, maybe, still what crowdfunding supporters were after? You'll have to listen to the latest Podtoid special to see who really didn't...

  • Yooka-Laylee is a fun throwback to a bygone era of gaming, with more than enough charm, variety, and engaging challenges to make up for its shortcomings...

  • Abstract:  Yooka-Laylee is a bright and enthusiastic throwback to classic 3D platforming. It is adventurous and full of discoveries. It is silly and irreverent, never taking itself seriously. But it also wears out its welcome fast, spiraling players into a ceaseless...

  • Abstract:  My first hour with Yooka-Laylee was a nostalgia filled wonder trip down memory lane. Sure, I have played Banjo-Kazooie dozens of times since its launch, but it hasn't been new in years. This is my first experience with a new game in that vein and oh man w...

  • Great gameplay loop, huge worlds to explore and unlock
  • Camera issues, characters feel stiff and lack personality

  • Yooka-Laylee contains all the pieces needed for a fun, enjoyable throwback to the 3D collectathons of the 64-bit era. The characters are charming and funny, your set of abilities is vast and entertaining, and four out of five of the worlds are fun playgro...

  • Beautiful, vibrant graphics, Varied, interesting worlds to explore, SoBadThatItsFunny jokes, Occasional Hidden Adult Humour, Great Characters, Fun Platforming, Lots of reasons to keep exploring
  • The talking loops quickly drive you to that special kind of unnecessarily annoyed, The music is equally unpleasant, loud and obnoxious, The controls are a little floaty and imprecise, Occasional frame rate drops
  • It might not be as good as your vague memories of the hallowed games of Rare, but Yooka-Laylee has a little bit of that old lovable magic in it. It may be made for children, but there is a little something that can make the old and miserable smile again...

  • A faithful spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, warts and all, "Expanding" worlds is a satisfying gimmick
  • Did I mention "warts and all"? Not everything here has aged well, So many bad puns, Relies too much on nostalgia to be a must-have for general audiences
  • As a longtime Banjo-Kazooie fan myself, Yooka-Laylee is exactly what I've missed. Does the 3D platformer needs an industry-wide revival? No. But if I got another Yooka-Laylee every two or three years? Yeah, I think there's room for that—for a celebration...

  • Impressive effort with a few noticeable problems holding it back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth most people's time and cash. How we score:  The Destructoid Reviews Guide...
